I'm Tom Ellis, an artist and run my own creative company Curious Oddities. Previous and ongoing clients include The Royal Shakespeare Company, Glastonbury Festival, Lapworth Museum, Coventry University and many schools in the Midlands. I'm a creator of predominantly fantastical, imaginative and delightfully unusual creations. I enjoy working using a range of materials on varied projects, including Creature Design, Puppeteering, Prop Making, Set Design, Costume Design and Workshops. What connects my work is a strong influence from the Victorian period with its roots in the quirky and darker side of life! I constantly draw inspiration from various ancient myths and stories. I’m a massive fan of the Brother’s Grimm! I explore my style constantly to push it further by experimenting with interesting found/foraged materials and collaborating with inspiring people. Predominantly I create creatures, these first spawned from my imagination when I was a child and I religiously watched Hammer Horror Movies and 80’s Fantasy Films on Sundays! With access to a bag of loo rolls, silver foil, pva and cardboard boxes, I was off and haven’t stopped since! However dark and weird they can seem, my creations always have a charm and mystery that hopefully will draw you into my odd world!
Please feel free to contact me if you want to know more about my fees for events, specific commissions or any other questions regarding the artistic services I offer.
